What a fantastic evening down at Caswell Bay, Swansea the tide dropped the wind was light and nice clean lines were pushing in for a small crew of long boarders and a group of really cool customers added to the lush experience. Love the beach !

Forget flying away, summer is here and that means small fun waves to learn in or practice in before the winter storms bring the real surf. 

Swansea is a great place for short trips or holidays as everything is so cheap compared with anywhere else in Europe. Yes you can buy 3 pints of beer for the price of one in France!

Caswell Beach & Rhossili Bay offer safe rolling waves unlike Padang Padang!

The heading above may sound sense to most of us, but the reason for this post is the following paragraph sent to me from a fellow surf traveller > "...I liked your post on Caswell being one of the best places to learn to surf on your blog. I met an English girl in Bali whose Australian boyfriend had taken her out for her first surfing lesson at Padang Padang. She was covered in reef cuts and was selling her brand new board...'

Above is a picture taken at Rhossili Bay, Gower as you can see a surfer is just about to head back out to the waist high peeling waves that are breaking safely on to the golden sand. Unlike Padang Padang which is a heavy Indo reef break ideal for advanced surfers only! Pics of > Padang Padang

Anyway, if you fancy surfing or getting your partner into surfing forget paddling out at Padang Padang come to Gower and try Caswell Bay or Rhossili Beach you know it makes sense > Gower surfing school

Back on glorious Gower, no rock falls or landslides just gently rolling waves ideal for learning in

We went for a walk around the Gower coastal path yesterday, the sun was shining and a small ground swell rolling gently on to Caswell Beach, Swansea.

Caswell and Rhossili Bays are simply the best places to learn in Europe and possibly the world due to the soft nature of the waves and the beach environment being so safe. I have spent the last two months travelling around the surfing world and looking at various surf spots that people learn at and must say, I am hard pushed to compare any to the above for your first surf lesson and next step surf session.

Put it quite simply, learn to swim in the shallow end before working your way to the deeper water! (Which could be one of our surf trips to Portugal in the winter of 2010)

Swansea Met University surfers enjoying surf lesson in the clean waves yesterday

Pictures below are of Swansea Met University surfers enjoying the clean waves yesterday, they were all wearing winter wetsuits, boots and gloves and finished the day off with a hot chocky in the surfside cafe..nice!
