Surfing sessions for all are available indoors on Thursdays, Friday after school and Saturday mornings sessions cost £30 for 4 sessions which will get you ripping on the wave machine under the supervision of our surfing coaches. These weekly block sessions can be booked via the LC and just mention the SurfGSD coaching sessions.

FAQ about the after school indoor surfing sessions here in Swansea

We have recently rec'd these questions from Toby one of our older  more experienced surfing squad riders and thought it may be helpful for all those interested in starting surfing indoors this winter with SurfGSD:

Hi i'm interested in going to the friday session at the leisure centre and i would like to know which friday it starts on? How much it costs ?  
Starts the first week back from half term, the cost is £30 for 4 sessions each lasting for an hour and a half and the times are as follows:

Thursday starting times are 17.30, 18.30 and 19.30

Friday starting times are 17.30, 18.30

Saturday starting times are 10 a.m and 11 a.m

Where in the leisure centre do we meet up ?  We meet you in the wetside changing area by the central control were you hand in your tickets. (Unless you are in the first session then the instructor will meet you in reception)

What do i wear ?  You will need to wear a wetsuit and one of our gath helmets. (N.B we do provide all equipment required)

What time it starts and finishes ?  The sessions last for an hour and a half from the time your session starts, which is broken down into different sections as at the beach: Warm up and how to fall properly on the surf rider,  Surfing machine, then warm down in the water park. (N.B. All surfers must abide by LC rules and Regulations.

Do i come already in my wetsuit ? No need as this is indoors surfing mate, you can get changed into your suit in the wetside changing room area and then you will place a GSD red rash vest over the top of your wetsuit.  The lockers at the LC take £1 and is returnable once finished. After the session ensure you rinse your suit out in the showers with fresh water.

Who do I pay and how do I book in? There are different types of surfing sessions that GSD run at the LC as we do outdoors.

What is the difference between your SurfGSD sessions and the ones taken by the lifeguards?

Pay that little extra and get a coaching session by a qualified BSA Surf Coach which will advance your skill level far beyond 'just having a go', our coaches will also go through how to fall correctly on the machine and incorporate the surf lessons techniques from outdoors to the indoor environment.

You can always tell when a surf coaching session is taking place the customers will be wearing the GSD red rash vests. You will be using our surfing equipment including a variety of surfboards which will enable you to experience the thrill of riding the indoor wave safely.

Indoor surf lessons on the board rider starting October 9th here in Swansea

Yesterday I went surfing on the best wave on offer which happened to be the indoor wave at the LC swansea. I surfed by myself for about 30 mins then the master of the surf machine Tom John came and joined in, during the next 60 minutes we tried out a couple of new boards.  We taught Jason Bradbury from the Gadget show to surf indoors here is the you tube link click here > Indoor surfing with the Gadget show

What a workout, I must have been up and riding for approx 60 minutes, think about that, how many waves would you have to catch to spend 60 minutes up and riding?

My legs gave way in the end and I came away totally stoked with the knowledge that I had improved my skill level on the wave riding machine. We will be in the LC from October the 9th operating on Thursdays and Fridays after school plus Saturday mornings there will be surf coaching sessions with our GSD staff and equipment, all are welcome with sessions available for adults, junior surfing academy and families.

Going with the flow, SurfGSD at Swansea indoor surfing centre

Megan wipes out but she is still smiling. It was flat today so we went for a session on the surf rider, I will post more flow riding pictures and surf rider videos on Friday with more news about the LC surfing pool.  Looks like a small swell is going to come in 2morrow and Weds, have fun.

Going with the Flow after a surf here in Swansea

After catching a few waves at Caswell yesterday we jumped in my van and headed to the LC Swansea for another blast on the flow rider. The fellow flow riders included Matt from GKR, Tom jenkins South Gower Rugby Club, Andrew Downie of Netbop and Grandad the guardian of Crab Island. It was fun while it lasted and glad to report no bruises for me this time. The session was cut short so the boys ended up playing in the pool and slides. Have just been watching this on you tube it is really sick check it out

Well I struggled out of bed this morning due to the wipeouts I endured yesterday on the new flow rider at Swansea L.C. Felt like the All Blacks had raked me out of the scrum! SurfGSD the only four star surf school in Wales can now tell people that we have surfed for the Queen! I am very glad that I had a winter suit on as it helped with the bumps, talking of which I hope Gwen our super star here in Swansea recovers quickly from a neck injury during a fall on the same machine  here is a picture of Gwen and info on the forthcoming BPSA.

The girls are coming to The Saltrock Open, and this time it’s serious.

The buzz around the women’s event has been gaining momentum every year, and 2008 looks set to be by far the strongest event yet.   

The standard of women’s surfing in the UK has gone from strength to strength, and we now have a growing group of exceptionally talented young British and Irish women travelling the globe, taking the surf world by storm.   

This March, all eyes turn to The Saltrock Open in Croyde to watch the girls fight it out for the honour of winning the first contest on the 2008 UK Pro Surf Tour. With Easter weekend falling so early this year we have every chance of some good, powerful swell to challenge the competitors give spectators a great demonstration of top quality women’s surfing. Current Ladies Champion Karma Worthington is fired up and eager to defend her title, and she will have to be in the form of her life with the likes of Easkey Britton, Holly Donnelly, Gwen Spurlock and Beth Mason hot on her heels.  Everything is in place to create yet another fantastic event, and everyone is excited to see what the girls can do.

Saltrock’s MD Angus Thomson comments, “Its Saltrock’s 20th anniversary this year, and over those 20 years we have certainly seen massive developments in women’s surfing. It’s important to Saltrock that we continue to support to the UK Pro Surf Tour and the growing number of talented female surfers emerging throughout the country.”  He adds, “Fingers crossed for some great waves, and we’ll certainly enjoy a good party this year.”

As always, this year’s contest will be celebrated on Saturday night in a prominent local pub.
