All in all a great Welsh Weekend, surf, live music and rugby!

Down tools day, grab your log, surfboard, barbie and head down the beach and feel your boots!

We have lessons running at 10 a.m and 13.00 down at Rhossili Beach, plus a surf festival at Caswell Bay for young people this arvo.

Last night we went to the Oasis concert in Cardiff, which is only 45 mins away from us here in Swansea.
It felt weird being at the stadium and not watching rugby, talking of which do not forget the British Lions  have a tough test which can be viewed on Sky sports at 14.00 onwards.

All in all a great weekend, surf, live music and rugby!

'Splat' & 'Skools Out' Swansea - School Holiday Surfing lessons & activities

The City & County of Swansea and partners bring you things to do such as skate jams, surfing, art workshops, environmental activities, fitness, digital art and music workshops, rock climbing, and a Big Brother experience.

Surfing with SurfGSD- Gower Surf School has been one of the most popular ways to get active in the  summer holidays year after year.  SurfGSD has been working with various Council to promote surfing and offer quality lessons to all.

As part or the after school lessons and school holiday academy at Caswell Bay, Swansea we also offer our  surfers the BSA Junior Surfer Scheme and enable points towards the Children's University.

Rip Curl Sponsor largest Women’s Event on UK Tour, includes visit to Llangennith/Rhossili Bay

The Rip Curl Girls Tour will this year feature a series of Women’s surfing contests in England and Wales. Three of these events; Bournemouth, Croyde and St Ives will combine to make a two star event on the Women’s UK Pro Surf Tour, with £1,000 prize money available. The surfer who accumulates the most points over these three competitions will win the only two star women’s event on the UK Pro Surf tour

In addition to the Pro events each venue will host a Newbie event. If the girls have not competed in a surf contest before they will have the opportunity to compete for the first time against surfers with the same experience as themselves. The finalists of these events will be put in the draw against the top Pro Surfers in the UK along with winning prizes from Rip Curl and the other sponsors.

The first event will take place at Bournemouth 28th June, at the location of the UK’s first artificial reef. There will be many activities taking place throughout the day to entertain the competitors. World Champion Stephanie Gilmore of Australia will be in attendance giving advice and supporting the development of the sport for Women.

The second stop on the Rip Curl Girls Tour will be Llangennith on the Gower Peninsula, 23rd July. This event will not be part of the Pro Tour Series, due to the expected number of Newbie entries for the first timer’s competition. For the last 3 years over 200 female surfers have taken the opportunity to attend this event.

Stop three is at Croyde Beach, North Devon. Widely recognised as one of the best beach breaks in the country. It will give the best surfers a good opportunity to show their skills in quality surf.

The final stop is Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, situated below the Tate Gallery; Porthmeor is possibly one of the most popular beaches in Cornwall. In addition to the First time and Pro Event there will be a Women’s Longboard Event, the only Women’s Longboard event on the UK Pro Surf Tour. At this event we will crown the winner of the Rip Curl Girls Tour and give away £1,000 prize money.

The Gower surf for the week ahead

Well after an awful weekend with flat waves and changeable weather, no good for anyone except for those opting to sit and watch the rugby matches all day that is.

The weather looks changeable all week, but, we may get some surf towards the end of the week and possibly very nice waves for the weekend with offshore winds at several spots.. throw in a bit of sun and we will be back on track.

Direct bus link to South Gower, coming soon!

Mondays to Fridays only 20^th July to 28^th August

 

A new bus, service 114, will link Mumbles directly with Bishopston, Pennard Cliffs, Parkmill, Oxwich Bay, Reynoldston, Port Eynon and Rhossili.

 

Three journeys a day will run, starting at Limeslade at 09.05, 12.45 & 16.45; and calling to pick up at the Big Apple, the George, Oystermouth Square, Norton and Fairwood Road.

 

Bringing visitors from Gower into Mumbles

 

Three buses will run from South Gower direct into Mumbles serving the same stops through to Limeslade. Gower visitors (and residents) will have a direct link to Mumbles shopping and other attractions.

The Gower Day Explorer ticket, which gives unlimited travel in Gower for a day costs just £4.00 (child £2.20; family £8.00) and can also be used on 114 and all other Gower Explorer services (sorry but it is not valid on First Cymru services 2, 3 & 14 Swansea to/from Mumbles & Pennard)

First Cymru serves Mumbles comprehensively!

 

Note this information applies with effect from 14th June

 

Weekdays except Bank Holiday Mondays

 

There are four buses per hour from Swansea (Oxford St) as far as Oystermouth Square and Newton Road.

 

There are three buses per hour (four in July & August) to Langland Corner (for Langland Bay)

 

There is one bus an hour direct to Limeslade, the Big Apple and the George. This service runs right up until late evening with the last return to Swansea from Limeslade at 22.57; Oystermouth Mumbles Rd at 23.05, ideal for a evening meal and drinks without driving worries!

 

In July and August, buses return to Caswell Bay; due to the last two years’ poor summers, there will only be a once hourly service this summer. So pray for sunshine and perhaps we can persuade First to resume half hourly service in 2010!!

 

Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays

 

There are three buses per hour for most of the day, all terminating at Oystermouth Square.

 

Good value tickets

 

First Day Swansea City tickets permit unlimited travel for a day on Mumbles and Pennard routes and throughout Swansea City. At £3.50 (child £2.50; family £8.00) they represent really good value for money!

Healthy eating, do you watch what you eat?

Just as well I was when I went to pop this slice of Hovis farmhouse wholemeal into the toaster this morning. As one of the nice workers at Hovis has obviously decided to add a blue glove into the ingredients for extra roughage perhaps.

Just makes you think about what the big corporates tell us is good for us.

Organic foods, home made and local produce is the way to go but the price put's so many of us off.
