Chop hopping requires a different talent, let us hope the Bell rings much louder!

I am so glad that I did not stay up last night and watch the chop hopping, am amazed that the pros opted to go in the water as it looked total pants and a step back to the bad old days of surfing in the worst places at the wrong times of year.
We want to see the best waves with the best pro surfers not chop hopping, hopefully Rip Curl will do better and order some large walls for the bells classic and then the best surfers will shine.

Surfing Australia? Then bring your sun block

Despite the summer crowds here on the main honey pots, there are loads of waves up and down the coast going unridden. All you need is a good van, a pile of boards and time on your hands to simply go surfing!

(They call this progress) A kind of Benidorm with waves!

Benidorm, Is all that springs to mind if you want a description of what the Gold coast has become. Two decades ago it was just Surfers Paradise that fitted the above description, unfortunately now it sweeps down most of the Gold coast and into Byron bay like the warm summer swells.

I popped into a campsite I stayed at for 4 months to catch up with old friends, all but one had escaped this concrete honey pot. When I asked what had happened to the area, he simply said, ‘That’s what they call progress..’  In fact the Kirra SLSC are holding a paddle out on Australia day to try and get the old Kirra point back!   All in all a very sad experience for me, of a place that I was totally in love with.

Would I come back to Benidorm Oz style?  Not in a hurry, there are places with much better waves and less crowds..  See you somewhere!

Learn to surf in the UK with us > British surfing School then pack your bags and travel! Just driven through a town called Swansea and below is there surf shop. We stayed a few miles up the road in a place called Newcastle, with lovely beaches and friendly natives just like back in the UK but warmer!

  

We rented a van, before you ask, no we did not have a choice in the decorations! Pretty funny though watching peoples reactions to it.. anyway that is all for now, see you somewhere!
