AFF To Present Bra Boys on Surf Night

AFF To Present Bra Boys on Surf Night

Jackson, Wyoming - December 21, 2007 - The Alpinist Film Festival announced today that it will present Bra Boys on January 18, 2008, at the Walk Festival Hall in Teton Village, Wyoming. The film--the shocking story of the Australian street gang redeemed by surf--will
conclude Surf Night, the second night of the 2008 AFF. Australia's Bra Boys--variously referred to as a surf tribe or a gang--formed in the early 1990s as a response to increasing levels of violence in their community.

Brothers Koby and Sunny Abberton, two of the group's founding members, used their allegiance to their fellow surfers to shield them from the ravages of drug addiction and domestic conflict. Along the way, they began to surf professionally, and Koby became one of the most fearless big-wave riders in the world. Then, disaster struck. In 2003, their brother Jai shot and killed another gang member. The descent into the legal morass that followed engulfed the family even more when Koby was jailed for refusing to cooperate with police. Bra Boys--narrated by Russell Crowe--captures the tragedy and ultimate triumph of this group of surfers for whom the ocean became a place of salvation. AFF producers are stressing that parental discretion is strongly advised for the audience members of Surf Night.

Violence and profanity are both prevalent in Bra Boys, which is not rated. We set out to make...an unflinching portrayal of the truth of our lives, Sunny said. There's been a lot of misconceptions about us and the group. And we just really want to show the truth. We didn't set out for the audience to either like us or hate us.... We just wanted to try and show the most truthful, realistic portrayal of our lives and the rollercoaster ride that it's been. Bra Boys is a riveting story, said Alpinist Film Festival producer Leslie Bahn. Combined with explosive surf footage, it's one of the best surf films I've seen.

We can almost guarantee that Bra Boys will be one of the most talked about films to emerge from the 2008 said Festival director Christian Beckwith. The North American distributor of the film is preparing for nationwide release in March 2008. Bra Boys was the winner of Best Documentary and Best Wipe Out at the Surfer Poll Awards in Los Angeles, CA, earlier this year. The 2008 Alpinist Film Festival will feature its signature Snow, Surf and Stone nights January 17-19 at Walk Festival Hall in Teton Village, Wyoming. A fourth evening, The People's Choice Ceremonies, will present the People's Choice award-winning films from the previous three evenings at the Center for the Arts in downtown Jackson. As an official entry into the AFF, Bra Boys will be in contention for the People's Choice Awards, the winners of which will be shown January 20 at the People's Choice Ceremonies in Jackson Hole.

Winners of the individual evenings receive a gift certificate from Patagonia worth $750. The Grand Prize winner receives an additional gift certificate worth $1,500. Tickets for The 2008 Alpinist Film Festival are $18 for the Snow,Surf and Stone nights and $20 for the People's Choice Ceremonies.Tickets and additional information can be found online at www.alpinist.com/film_festival To date, every event in The Alpinist Film Festival's three-year history has sold out.

About The Alpinist Film Festival The Alpinist Film Festival celebrates the adventure lifestyle across disciplines and generations with three nights of film in skiing, surfing and climbing. Is there a 'Tank' like character in your local surfing area?

Surfs_up_live_surf_travel

Have been waiting a long time to see this film even ignoring the opportunity of watching it online or via a pirate copy, nope, Izzy and I waited and then went to the Odeon in Swansea for the big screen experience and it was well worth it.

Obviously, there are hidden messages for all to take on board, but Martin and I smirked when we saw the 'Tank' character acting like an individual here on Gower whom is not well liked for his bully boy ways of getting waves. No names mentioned of course but those of you who surf here on Gower and after watching the film would know exactly who our Gower 'tank' is.

There must be tank types in every surfing region and be warned Z and karma will always come through.

If you have got time go and see this film. '...It will change your life dude...'

p.s well done to chicken joe for winning the surf contest and Kelly slater my hero for getting involved with this production

Izzy gave this film a 10/10 must watch

Liquid Lifestyles visits the Surf Mecca of the World, Hawaii.

Sick_turn

I just had this sent through, after tow surf training in the wind and rain for 3 hours and it is meant to be our summer!!

I watched the first 8 mins of this cool looking DVD and worked out that it would only be a matter of months and I too would be back in the gathering place. Click on the picture for the link to watch the demo. well done guys good effort.

Liquid Lifestyles is a Surf Travel/Lifestyle Documentary series on DVD, with the first issue shot in Hawaii during the winter surf season of last year.

With Surf travel being a million dollar business, Liquid lifestyles is here to provide crucial information on the best surf locations around the world. To buy your own copy of the DVD just walk into any good surf shop.

“Hawaii is the surf mecca of the world” Bonga Perkins. Trust me every word of that statement rings true. Hawaii is the place every true surfer has to visit, it’s a pilgrimage that has to be done, full stop. With three of the best breaks in the world, basically within walking distance of each other,  this location is placed on the world’s highest stage. Hawaii also has one of the most gorgeous landscapes, with huge mountains and cliffs over looking the coastline, it truly is an amazing place.

The Hawaiian’s have very deep traditions with the ocean and the land. Kuleana is one of those traditions. “Kuleana is our responsibilities and responsibilities in everything around us and to each other and family, to our land, to our ocean.” Duane DeSoto. Liquid Lifestyles interviewed some truly genuine Hawaiian watermen and lovely Hawaiian women, these interviews will have you on the edge of your seat.

Justin Grover the founder of Liquid Lifestyles worked as a cameraman/editor at Network Ten for 8 years and before that was with Cutting Edge a leading Australian Post-Production company. Liquid Lifestyles was created because Justin could not find enough information on surfing destinations, and with the backing of his family took off for Hawaii with a film crew to shoot the best surf in the world.

Mavericks Surf Highlights 2006: Wipeouts and my morning rant.

Some pretty horrible stuff on this, mind you not as bad as some of the B.S that this current government are coming out with.  We must give them credit for being very good at taxing people. Their newest scheme is to tax road useage. Now in principal, something has to be done to encourage less use of cars due to global warming. However, to encourage us out of cars they need to offer us a cheaper, cleaner and most importantly RELIABLE, alternative, sustainable transport system.   The type that most forward thinking govt's in Europe have in place. Anyway not long and I guess we will have another bunch of monkeys in power. Sorry for the rant on this clean surfing blog, but I just heard one of the monkeys talking on the radio and it wound me up.
